He moves in immediately, without delay, the moment you believe in Jesus. Some people think they have to search for the Holy Spirit, but He dwells in every believer. We cannot miss Jesus' clear statement here that the proof of genuine love for Him is obedience to His commands (a subject I explain in great depth in my book The Gospel According to Jesus [Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 1988, 1994]).
